The relay will be held in memory of Barb McNeill’s dear friend, Arlene Lefurgey (nee Whelan) who passed away in March, 2009 as a result of lung disease, as well will recognize all Islanders that struggle every day to breath because of lung diseases. Proceeds from the relay are being donated to both the PEI Lung Association and the adoptive acquatic swim program at Credit Union Place for those who struggle with respiratory illnesses.

This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, July 16th at Credit Union Place (Summerside) from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Participants and their supporters (family, friends, co-workers, etc.) are invited to stay throughout the morning to cheer on the swimmers as they swim their laps in support of lung health. Relay teams consist of 4-6 people per team. Participants are encouraged to come up with a creative name for their team. Throughout the event, there will be snacks, water and lots of music. A reception will be held in the conference room at 12:30 noon following the relay where there will be opportunities to win some prizes and the closing address will be made thanking all participants for their support. It is guaranteed to be a fun filled event with lots of energy and laughter.

Breath Strokes is a fun team relay event. Participants will swim as many lengths of the pool (in a specified amount of time) as possible to honour those people who can’t because taking a breath is a daily challenge.
